The companion animal-human bond is strong and undisputed. The impact of companion animals on people in medical settings, as well as on their families, has been shown from the perspective of psychology, immunology, endocrinology and pharmacology. The study summarises the peer-reviewed literature on the impact companion animals have on the hospitalised patient. The mechanics and engineering concepts of connecting pets and their humans are outlined.
